[ST. VALENTINE'S DAY MASSACRE]. Pew from the Drake-Braithwaite Funeral Home. American, early 20th century. Oak funeral parlor pew taken from Chicago's Drake-Braithwaite Funeral Home at 2221 N. Lincoln Ave., where six of the seven victims of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre were received. A widely circulated photograph of members of the Special Crime Committee being sworn in over the victims' bodies depicts pews of this design within the frame.

A historically significant association item from the infamous murders by members of Al Capone's gang.

Ownership of the pew descends directly from the owner of the funeral parlor, Daniel R. Beinecke Sr. (1893 - 1971), who purchased the business in 1929, to his son, Daniel R. Beinecke Jr. (1920 - 1987), to the consignor, Don Beinecke.
