Staffordshire Clown Puzzle Jug. Circa 1880.?Molded ceramic pitcher decorated with black and white transfer work and overglazed with polychrome in bright colors, including scenes of Joey Grimaldi the famous clown, a chain-rattling ghost ala Dickens' Christmas Carol, and a grisly cockfight. Only those acquainted with the puzzle jug's solution know how to pour water from the vessel without it streaming from the hole in the bottom of the pitcher. Height 9 ?". Rubbing to finish, but unchipped and unrestored; near fine.
