Steiff group of 20 vintage animals. Germany / W. Germany, ca. 1960s-80s. Includes three teddy bears (including a circus costume bear); Wittie owl; Nosy rhino; kitten (2700/07); Peggy penguin; a reclining lion and two lion cubs; giraffe; Flori sheep; giraffe (velvet covering); and others.
Some with tags / IDs, but some with buttons only.
Highlights include:
Mecki Hedgehog Doll: This is a pre-production sample of this popular German character.
White postwar Musical Bear: The large white Teddy in this lot contains a non-working "press-and-release" clockwork musical mechanism in its chest. Although the mechanism no longer functions reliably, its presence makes this an unusually rare and desirable example of Steiff's early post-war production.
A very early White Albino Rabbit: This is by far the oldest piece in this lot, dating from the late 1910s or very early 1920s. It retains a very early Steiff button that identifies it as being from this era.
