STODARE, Colonel (Joseph Stoddart, 1831 ? 66). Two Performance Portraits of Colonel Stodare. [England, ca. 1860]. A pair of CDVs of the influential stage magician who worked at Egyptian Hall before Maskelyne. In one, he presents the Linking Rings, and the other photo, he produces an endless quantity of metal cups and cloth balls from a stovepipe hat. Plain mounts, each 4 x 2 3/8". Wear to versos, else fine. Both images apparently unpublished; neither appears in Dr. Edwin Dawes' biography of Stodare or elsewhere, and apparently only the second appearance of Stodare photographs at auction.
