SUDDUTH, Jimmy Lee (American, 1910-2007). Mud Portrait. Circa 1960s-1980s. Acrylic mixed with mud on board. 51 x 27?. Mounted onto thick matte, framed and glazed (frame size: 57 x 28?). Signed in pencil in upper left corner. Some wear due to age. An excellent example of this early master of Southern Art. Sudduth made artwork from found objects nearly his entire life. He would make his own pigments (various materials he could mix with acrylic paint) and he painted on whatever he could find (plywood, old doors, stones, etc.). His work has been displayed at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, New Orleans Museum of Art (he was the Artist-in-Residence), the Birmingham Museum of Art, and more. Provenance:?purchased directly from the artist.
