Tammany Bank Cast Iron Mechanical Bank. Cromwell, CT: J. & E. Stevens. ca. 1873. Depicts a large seated man in a jacket and vest. Right arm rotates to deposit coin in pocket above left arm, and head bobs. Marked on back of chair with patent date: Dec 23, 1873. "Tammany Bank" marked on each side of chair. 

“The Little Fat Man Bank,” as creator John Hall initially patented it, became a caricature of William "Boss" Tweed, a corrupt political leader in New York City. The action of the figure pocketing a coin serves as a metaphor for the politician accepting a bribe.
