[TATTOOS]. PARRY, Albert (1901-1922). Tattoo. Secrets of a Strange Art as Practised among the Natives of the United States. New York: Simon and Schuster, 1933. 8vo. Illustrated. 171 pp. Publisher's (variant?) binding of full green cloth, printed paper label, publisher's unclipped ("$3.00" on rear jacket flap) dust jacket. FIRST EDITION OF THE FIRST HISTORY OF AMERICAN TATTOOING, IN THE SCARCE ORIGINAL DUST JACKET. Parry, an academic, went to waterfronts, circuses, and other off-the-beaten-track locations to interview tattoo artists of the day, when tattoos were still taboo and not as accepted as they are today. This excellent and scholarly history was one of the first publications to link tattoos to sexuality.
