THAYER, Floyd (1877 ? 1959). Floyd Thayer's Childhood Scrapbook. 1879. Clothbound album with elaborate floral and peacock motif to front board in colors, blind stamped with patent date to rear. The pages are filled with over 100 vintage American trade cards, invitations, and die-cut floral designs, most lithographed in colors, and advertising a wide range of products from soap to food, to thread, to patent medicines, masquerade balls, and more. A few bear designs foreshadowing Thayer's future as a supplier of goods to the entertainment world, picturing Jumbo the elephant, Japanese jugglers, puppets, and the like. The front pastedown bears the inked inscription tracing the provenance of the scrapbook: ?This ? was made for Floyd Thayer by his mother in 1879 when Floyd was two years old. She died soon after when his brother was born. It was one of Floyd's most loved [possessions]. ? Gladdis Thayer Boysen." Spine frayed and taped, joints loose, binding rubbed, but well preserved overall.
