Hunt, [James Henry] Leigh. The Town; its memorable characters and events, [with ALS]. London: Smith, Elder, and Co., 1848. 2 vols. First edition. Tipped-in with an original 2-page hand-written letter possibly to or from the author (d. 1836). Contemporary half polished calf over marbled boards, raised bands with gilt rolls, compartments with gilt fleuron centerpieces framed in gilt tools, two morocco spine labels titled in gilt, marbled endpapers, a.e.m. Frontispieces + 45 intertextual illustrations. 8vo. Extremities gently rubbed, joints tired, contemporary bookplate of Lord Farnham (Henry Maxwell, 7th Baron), import stamp to front flyleaves. Hunt was credited with introducing Robert Browning, John Keats, and Alfred Lord Tennyson to the public, as well as co-founding ?The Examiner?; a journal expounding radical principles.
