[TONY ALVA]. 33rd Birthday Deck Autographed by Notable Friends. California, 1990. An original blank Kent Sherwood Z-Flex deck inscribed with wishes to "Tony 'Maddog' Alva" on the occasion of his 33rd birthday in September 1990. Signatories include numerous skate-world figures, including skaters Rick Blackhart, Danny Sargent, Ray Flores, Mike McGill, Jeremy Henderson, and Christian Hosoi (under the name "Tuff Skates"); Thrasher photographer Bill Thomas; and Tom Scott, founder of the Jaks Team. At the upper rail, Tony Hawk has inscribed: "Tony - How'd you ever ride these things?"
Kent Sherwood, Jay Adams' step-father, was first approached to produce a signature deck for the Zephyr Competition Team in 1973 before leaving with Adams and Alva to create "Z-Flex" in 1976. This orange blank appears to be an early example of the Z-Flex "Z original" from 1976--the deck that brought skateboarding to the American mainstream--featuring resin construction and a sample central shank that remains straight through the truck-mounts. Approximately 27 x 6 1/2".
Condition
