TOULOUSE-LAUTREC, Henri de (1864 ? 1901). Salon des Cent. 1895. Paris: Imp. Bourgerie & Cie. Color lithograph poster. Lautrec was on his annual vacation in the summer of 1895, on board a ship from Le Havre to Bordeaux. He became so infatuated with the woman in this poster that he refused to disembark at Bordeaux, and continued until at Lisbon his friend finally persuaded him to go (the woman was headed further, to Senegal). Lautrec's design, known as ?The Passenger in Cabin No. 54," shows the woman reclined and looking out to sea. It was used as the Salon des Cent exhibition poster. Linen backed (older). 23 3/8 x 15 7/8". Scattered short creases; small piece of replaced paper lower left corner; closed tear lower left. B+. Provenance: purchased by Questers from Joseph Faulkner-Main Street Galleries, Chicago, 12 October 1970 (with the original sale receipt and invoice). Delteil 366. Adhemar 188. Julien 19. DFP-II 843.
