Addams, Jane. Twenty Years at Hull-House, with TLS. New York: The Macmillan Company, 1911. First edition, later printing. Tipped in TLS to flyleaf by Addams dated December 18th, 1918 with the Hull House letterhead. Original reddish-brown cloth lettered and ruled in gilt with a paper label depicting Hull House to front board., t.e.g. Illustrated. 8vo. Inner joint cracked and hinges starting, rubbed extremities, owner inscription to ffep, shelf cocked. Addams co-founded Chicago?s Hull House, one of America?s most famous settlement houses; in 1931 she became the first American woman to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, and is recognized as the founder of the social work profession in the U.S.
