U.S. Funk Band in Japan Snapshot Archive. All dated 1979. Approximately 46 nightclub performance photographs documenting an American funk/soul band performing in Japan. The images capture a lively nightclub setting with musicians on stage—guitarist, saxophonist, and drummer—alongside candid offstage moments. The performers’ style—afros, flamboyant stagewear, tinted sunglasses, and a notable rainbow wig—strongly reflects late-1970s American funk and disco culture, suggesting a U.S. touring act rather than a domestic Japanese group. Several photographs show instruments, microphones, and club interiors with mirrored walls and low lighting typical of Japanese nightlife venues of the period. The sequence moves between performance and informal social scenes, indicating a working band, possibly on tour or in residence. Versos largely blank or with faint lab markings. A cohesive and visually engaging archive documenting the export of American funk culture abroad at the end of the disco era.

Each measuring approximately 4 1/2 x 3".
