Obsequens, a Roman writer, is thought to have lived in the middle of the fourth century A. D. This is the only work attributed to him. It is also believed that the work does not contain his personal eyewitness account of the phenomena described, as they took place nearly 400 years before he was born. Overall, the book recounts 132 wonders and portents, including UFO activity (it describes unusual activities in the skies), and human deformities.

Ink signatures and notes on title-page and throughout the first part (the marginalia appear to be in the hand of one of the previous owners who have inscribed the title-page - inscriptions dated 1680 and 1722), pencil and ink notations on endleaves.
