UTZ, Thornnton (American, 1914-1999). Large archive of personal artwork, art reference photos, etc. Circa 1950s-1990s. This archive includes several photos and color slides of nude women, numerous other original photos of clothed people in various poses for art references, numerous sketches and studies by Utz, 90 copies of covers of The Saturday Evening Post (excised from magazines, some chipping, wear) and a few ads featuring Utz?s artwork (nearly all signed by him), art supplies, 2 jigsaw puzzles featuring Utz?s artwork (one still in shrinkwrap), some art supplies, and a partial ream of Rives Arches paper. INTERESTINGLY, THIS ARCHIVE INCLUDES A TYPED LETTER SIGNED BY FORMER PRESIDENT RICHARD M. NIXON (dated June 27, 1977, on personal stationery), in which Nixon writes to Utz?s wife, thanking her for her thoughts on his David Frost interview, and stating his intention to look into her husband?s special talents. An interesting archive.
