VAN BUREN, Martin (1782?1862). Early document twice signed (?M. V. Buren?) as attorney on 17 September 1808. Engraved on laid paper, one page (146 x 203 mm), accomplished in manuscript, docketed to verso again with his signature, paper seal of Columbia County, New York. Creased with toning along folds. PLAINTIFF IN SUIT IS VAN BUREN?S BROTHER?IN?LAW. Twice signed when Martin Van Buren was a Surrogate of Columbia County (1808?1813), 29 years before taking the oath of office as the 8th President of the United States. James Van Buren, Martin?s brother?in?law, files a complaint with the State of New York seeking a debt owed to him by John Bidwell.
