Illustrated with 58 plates. 620 pp. Contemporary half dark brown calf over marbled boards, spine gilt, burgundy gilt morocco lettering label, all edges marbled. Spine sunned, some wear, soiling to binding, hinges just starting some sunning to endleaves, text a bit toned, occasionally foxed, engraved title-page trimmed a bit close with some minor loss, ownership signature on half-title. Very good. FIRST EDITION. [And:] Two later editions of this title. London: W. Nicholson & Sons, [n.d.] and London: Frederick Warne and Co., 1886. 8vos. Publisher’s bindings. Some wear, bumping soiling. Very good. LATER EDITIONS. This novel is about Valentine Vox, a crime-solving ventriloquist.
