Dated Feb. 19, 1933 and typed neatly on Vernon?s letterhead (with a return address in Wichita, Kansas), the message reads, in part, ?The effects in the manuscript are purely of an impromptu nature and all extremely simple to do. For this reason I shall also send you a few tips on card work in general and comment on our old friend Erdnase.? Vernon goes on, demurring: ?When [Cardini] told you of my ability, I am afraid that he all-owed his enthusiasm to cause him to exaggerate. I only wish that I could handle a deck the way I?d like to.
