Original publisher?s terra?cotta cloth lettered in gilt (few tiny marginal stains); morocco edged slipcase. Provenance: John Stuart Groves, bookplate of a 20th century book collector. FIRST EDITION of Whittier?s most famous work. FIRST STATE with p. 52 numbered at foot, later dropped in the second state. BAL 21862.
