Engraved frontispiece by Fletcher after Cooper and a woodcut of barrels in the text. [xvi], [1]-192 pp. Bound in modern quarter brown cloth over brown cloth boards, printed paper label on spine, modern plain endleaves. FIRST EDITION OF THIS RARE GUIDE TO WINE-MAKING, AND THE FIRST ENGLISH APPEARANCE OF A DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF WINE-MAKING IN CHAMPAGNE. The anonymous author states that, despite long-held ideas about viniculture, wine grapes can be grown successfully in England, and fine wine can be produced there.

Condition

Text and frontispiece a bit toned and foxed, with a few pages with short marginal tears, contemporary ownership signature (illegible) on title-page. Near fine.
