WWI Women’s War Work Press Photographs. Underwood & Underwood, 1917–18. Group of 5 World War I press photographs relating to women’s wartime service and relief work, several with Underwood & Underwood and British official photograph stamps and/or original typed caption material. Includes American “telephone girls” arriving in France to operate switchboards near the fighting line; U.S. nurses arriving in England on their way to Pershing’s forces; British lady ambulance drivers decorated for bravery; a Salvation Army woman serving doughnuts to an American soldier near a rest room; and a dramatic Western Front incendiary grenade attack photograph. Various sizes, generally 6 1/2 x 8 1/2" or smaller.

Some with press markings, pasted captions, black paper remnants, stamps, pencil notations, toning, corner and edge wear, and mounting residue to versos.'
