WYETH, Newell Convers (1882-1945). Pittsburgh in the Beginning / Pennsylvania Railroad. 1930. Pennsylvania Railroad Patriotic Posters No. 3. Color lithograph poster depicting the establishment of Fort Prince George, the site of what would later be Pittsburgh, at the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers. Wyeth was one of the most popular American book and magazine illustrators of the early twentieth century. Four of Wyeth?s paintings were featured in PRR?s poster series (Pittsburgh; Washington, D.C.; Kentucky; and Philadelphia). 40 ? x 27 5/8?. Linen backed. Expert over-painting around margins; scattered repaired tears and inpainting into text and borders.
