WYNDHAM, John (1903–1969). The Midwich Cuckoos. London: Michael Joseph, 1957. 8vo. 239 pp. Publisher's black cloth in original unclipped ("13s 6d") dust jacket. FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING OF SCI-FI HORROR NOVEL.

Alongside The Day of the Triffids, the novel stands as Wyndham's most famous work, telling the story of the women in an English village who become pregnant with parasitic aliens. Margaret Atwood rated it even more highly than its better-known counterpart. It has been adapted for film three times, including John Carpenter's 1995 remake Village of the Damned starring Christopher Reeve. At one point, Wyndham began writing a sequel but promptly abandoned it, leaving the original a standalone achievement in science fiction horror.
