The original Acme Newspictures caption on the verso identifies the object as one of a group of human heads reportedly prepared under Nazi SS authority at Buchenwald concentration camp, later examined by a Czech pathologist following the camp’s liberation. The image represents early postwar press documentation of Nazi atrocities and the forensic study of human remains used as evidence. Verso retains Acme Newspictures credit stamp and partial original caption sheet. 8 x 6."
