Boston: James W. Burditt, 1810. 8vo. 192 pp. Contemporary full calf, rebacked preserving most of the original spine, later burgundy gilt morocco lettering label (binding worn, soiled, hinges repaired, endleaves toned, soiled, foxed). Very good. SECOND EDITION OF THIS HISTORY OF SHAY?S REBELLION. Massachusetts farmers who had served in the Revolutionary War had been promised payment and bonuses after the war, which they never got. After the war, they endured severe economic hardship because of the lack of their bonuses. Farmer Daniel Shay led a militia to the arsenal at Springfield in an effort to seize the weapons. They were defeated, and the leaders were eventually captured, tried, and condemned to death (they were later pardoned). Measurements: 9 x 7 x 1?.
