[AUTOMATA & MAGIC]. D'AUGVIGNEY, M. Three British Playbills. Hull: M.C. Peck, 1840s. Three letterpress playbills for the magician's appearance at the Victoria Rooms, Hull, featuring his ?automaton on the tight rope" (perhaps an imitation of Robert-Houdin's Antonio Diavolo), marionette show, and ?Philosophical Recreations" with ?Mysterious and Superb Apparatus." One bill details the magic tricks he will present with fanciful names common at that time. Largest 18 ? x 9 ?". Unmounted. Wear and chipping around edges, small losses, but well-preserved overall.Little is known of D'Augvigney, but for more information about his partnership with Mr. Shaw (the Royal Magician), see ?The Rich Cabinet of Magical Curiosities" No. 415.
