BUKOWSKI, Charles (1920-1994). ?The Lost Generation? [Poem Printed on Bukowski?s Computer], Inscribed by Bukowski. San Pedro, Calif., [5/14/84]. On plain white paper. Approximately 11 x 8 ??. One horizontal crease at center, recipient?s faint pencil note at bottom indicating date. Fine. INSCRIBED BY BUKOWSKI TO A NOTED COLLECTOR AND DEALER NEAR THE PRINTED POEM: ?Hello Al-Yeah, I read ?The Passionate Years,? got this poem out of it. Buk? (The book mentioned by Bukowski is The Passionate Years, an autobiography by Carese Crosby (1892-1970), published in 1953). In her book, Crosby describes ?The Lost Generation? of expatriate writers; she and her husband, Harry (1898-1929) founded the Black Sun Press, and published early writings of many of ?The Lost Generation? writers, including Ernest Hemingway, Henry Miller, Anais Nin, and Bukowski himself (his second short story, 20 Tanks from Kasseldown, 1945).
