CHANDLER, Raymond (1888-1959). Typed Letter Signed. La Jolla, California, June 20th. 1956. Addressed ?Dear Swanie? (Chandler?s agent, H. N. Swanson). 1 4to page on 1 4to sheet of ?Hotel Del Charro? stationery on brown paper. Signed ?Ray? at bottom right in black ink. With Chandler?s corrections in ink and pencil. Approximately 11 x 8 ??. 2 vertical and 1 horizontal creases, some other faint creases, several small pin holes at upper left corner. Fine. CHANDLER WRITES TO HIS AGENT; THIS LETTER INCLUDES A PASSAGE ABOUT WORKING WITH ALFRED HITCHCOCK: ?... Hitchcock, who I thought didn?t like my work on Strangers on a Train, told a London reporter I know that he had ?made a great mistake in hiring Chandler. I should never have hired a real writer.? What he means is that nothing in one of his pictures must suggest that there is any talent but Hitchcock?s at work. I think he is the most conceited man I ever met.? Superb content.
