[Great Chicago Fire] Broadside Proclamation by Mayor Roswell B. Mason for the Preservation of Good Order Following the Great Fire of 1871, October 11, 1871. Mason appoints General P.H. Sheridan, U.S. Army, to oversee the "preservation of good order, peace and quiet in the city. There are three (3) other known originals, including one (1) at the Newberry Library, Chicago, Illinois (Graff 680) and two (2) at the Chicago History Museum, Chicago, Illinois. Original pin hole presumably used to tack up the proclamation at top center. Chipped around edges. Framed and tipped to a mat. Scarce.
