[Great Chicago Fire] A Rare Copy of the Earliest Chicago Newspaper to Report on the Great Fire of 1871. "Chicago on Fire!" Chicago Post. Extra. October 9, 1871. Providing a report on the aftermath of the Great Chicago Fire, including information on Mayor Mason’s appointment of P.H. Sheridan to oversee good order and his appointment of the Chicago Relief and Aid Society to overtake the administrator of relief efforts. Only one other known copy, housed at the Newberry Library, Chicago. One page, silked, framed. Very good condition with a small repaired tear to the top right corner and a few localized brown spots. Provenance: Marshall Fields, Chicago. Exceedingly scarce.
