Group of WWII U.S. Army Women’s Army Corps and Cadet Nurse Photographs. 1943–1946. Group of approximately 20 black-and-white vernacular photographs depicting women in U.S. military service during World War II, including members of the Women’s Army Corps and Cadet Nurse Corps. Images show uniformed women posed individually and in groups, including formal studio portraits and informal snapshots taken outdoors on base grounds and near barracks. Several images depict daily life and duties, including handling mail or paperwork, standing beside military vehicles, and casual groupings with servicemen. Notable are multiple studio portraits identified on verso as “Phyllis Benson, Cadet Nurse, Univ. of Calif.” with Glendale, California studio imprint, as well as additional named subjects including “Margie Heath” and “Regina Skalski (‘Reggie’).” One image is dated March 1943, and another references “The record office gang, May 1946,” suggesting coverage from wartime through immediate postwar service. A larger official U.S. Army Air Forces photograph (verso stamped for the 6th Ferrying Group) is also included. The group offers a cohesive visual record of women’s military service on the American home front, with emphasis on uniformed identity, camaraderie, and administrative and support roles. Various sizes, most approximately 3 x 4 to 5 x 7".
