HOUDINI, Harry (Erik Weisz, 1874 - 1926). Photo of Houdini and Assistants Producing Rabbits. Chicago: Butler, [1925]. Houdini stands behind a table on which rests a top hat holding three rabbits. He holds another in his hand, and on his right an assistant cradles a giant rabbit. Captioned in the lower margin with the names of the subjects in ink (possibly in the hand of Beatrice Houdini): Julie Karcher, Houdini, and Julia Sawyer (Houdini's niece). 10 x 8", framed and matted slightly larger.
This image was used to illustrate Kenneth Silverman's 1996 biography, Houdini!!!. It is one of several images taken by Butler of Chicago in anticipation of the magician's "3 shows in 1" tour which began in 1925 and ended with his untimely death the following year. Images of Houdini performing magic are scarce.
