Posed behind the brothers is Nat Weiss's wife, Sadie, and beside them at the right of the image is their mother, Cecelia Steiner Weiss. From the left, the brothers are: Leopold, Theo Hardeen, William (Bill), Houdini, and Nat (standing behind his mother). A young girl with a large bow in her hair sits in front of them all. 4 ? x 5". One corner clipped, scrapbook remnants to verso. With inked notations IN HOUDINI'S HAND on the recto stating: ?Houdinis taken from the automobile Co. (notice Sadie behind bars)." A humorous note above Sadie's image reads ?The beautiful captive." A RARE and likely unpublished of the Houdini brothers together with their mother.Sadie Weiss, pictured here behind iron bars, married Houdini's older brother Nat in 1899. But eighteen years later, in 1917 she divorced Nat ? only to marry his younger brother Leopold just ten days later. The turmoil and family strife this caused lasted for years, and kept Houdini, Sadie, and Leopold in a state of estrangement for the rest of Houdini's life.
