HOUDINI, Harry (Erik Weisz, 1874 – 1926). Houdini Hippodrome Vanishing Elephant Program. [New York, 1917]. Houdini vanishes a “10,000 pound” animal according to text in the program. Framed with the pictorial page showing Houdini and an overboard packing box escape, to 18 x 34 ½”. Not examined out of frame. It was at this giant Manhattan theater that Houdini vanished Jennie, a pachyderm, in the center of the stage as part of a larger vaudeville billed titled “Cheer Up.” The joke among many was that the box from which the elephant vanished was pushed on stage by three men, but after the “vanish,” was shoved into the wings by ten or more.
