John Quincy Adams: Prohibitively Rare Pewter Rim. An extraordinarily rare pewter-rim portrait of John Quincy Adams, widely regarded as the scarcest presidential candidate encountered in the highly-collected format. Campaign items of Adams of any kind are uncommon; only a small number of examples in the larger pewter-rim format are known. This extremely unique small-format example, 1 5/16" in diameter, dates to the contentious election cycles of 1824 or 1828, when Adams campaigned against Andrew Jackson. The rise of such popular campaigning produced some of the nation's earliest presidential election ephemera. The front presents a portrait of Adams; the reverse (sometimes presenting a Vice President or running mate) contains a mirror.

Condition

General rubbing and patina, lacking suspension loop at top. Fine.
