Large photography and document archive focused on (primarily) Lunar, Mariner, Voyager, and Viking 2 Missions from the collection of Gregory Hallock Smith, a former optical engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory who designed the camera lenses for all Mars Exploration Rovers. This lot contains hundreds of celestial photographs, internal and external publications, technical reports and mission updates regarding imaging projects & technologies, as well as professional and personal correspondence. HIGHLIGHTS: Approximately 120 period (1962-1970s) silver gelatin prints in various sizes depicting planets, nebulas, the lunar surface, constellations, the night sky, and more. -- Over 150 images (high quality offset lithograph prints) from space missions, some press photos and internally circulated images. Many combined into packets with signed letters from the JPL Director to employees. Including several "artist's concept" illustrated prints. -- Complete set of Viking 2 Launch and Mission Operations Status Bulletins (March 31, 1975–October 31, 1978) No. 1–46. Including supplements and special issues. Nearly all with duplicate copies (100+ pieces total). -- ZUSSMAN, Kim. Astronomy's Astrophotography Series. Kalmbach Publishing Co., 1989.
