KELLER, Helen (1880-1968). Inscribed Photograph. [New York: Areda, n.d.]. Large black and white photograph of a youthful Keller reading a book in Braille (or another similar type for the blind). Sight approximately 13 x 9 1/2". Matted and framed under glass. Frame size approximately 15 1/2 x 12 1/2". ELABORATELY INSCRIBED BY KELLER AT THE BOTTOM RIGHT OVER THE IMAGE OF HER SKIRT, IN PENCIL: "History is its record of the struggles of man to realize upon Earth his dream of a social order founded on this love of God and his brotherhood of man Helen Keller." Presumably, someone helped her frame her inscription on the image of her skirt. An unusually long inscription by Keller.
Keller was an author and disability advocate, and suffragette. She was famously taught by Annie Sullivan (1866-1936), who became her lifelong friend and companion. The play, The Miracle Worker (1957) was based upon their early relationship.
Condition
The pencil markings of her inscription is indented into the photograph, as one would expect. Fine. Not examined out of frame.
