[KUBRICK, Stanley (1928-1999), association]. [BAKER, Chris (b. 1960), artist]. Group of 51 Faxed Storyboards for A. I. Artificial Intelligence. [N.p., ca. 1994-1996]. Storyboards (black and white and some in color) on fax paper (none are original drawings; all are faxed copies). Approximately 8 1/4 x 11 1/2". FROM THE PERSONAL COLLECTION OF LOUIS BLAU, LITERARY AND FILM ATTORNEY FOR STANLEY KUBRICK. THESE STORYBOARDS HAD BEEN SENT FROM BAKER TO KUBRICK AND, LATER, STEVEN SPIELBERG. Presumably, some of these storyboards haven't been seen by the public.

These storyboards depict various scenes in the film (2001), not all of which are depicted in the accompanying book. All storyboards are signed in facsimile by "Fangorn," Chris Baker's pseudonym. This film was developed by Kubrick since he had acquired the rights (in 1970) of Brian Aldiss' story, Super Toys Last All Summer Long (1969). Kubrick spent nearly 20 years developing the story, but didn't begin filming as he felt that CGI was necessary to depict the main character (Kubrick felt that no child actor could play the character of David adequately), and he felt that CGI wasn't good enough at that time. In 1995, Kubrick handed the reins to the film to Steven Spielberg (b. 1946), who began filming in 1999 after Kubrick's death. The film was released in 2001, and was nominated for several awards.

Offered with: BAKER, Chris. A. I. Artificial Intelligence. Edited by Jan Harlan and Jane M. Struthers. [New York:] Thames & Hudson, [2009]. Oblong folio. Profusely illustrated. Publisher's full black cloth, unclipped dust jacket. Minor rubbing to cloth and jacket. Fine. FIRST AMERICAN EDITION.

Condition

Minor rubbing, else fine.
