Featuring the collection of lifelong circus collector John Diesso, this auction includes heralds, couriers, and posters advertising the "greatest shows" of yesteryear. Photographs, route books, scrapbooks, and circus costumes will be also be offered, spanning the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. A wide array of early European circus posters will be sold, along with a large library of circus books of several thousand volumes.

LIND, Jenny (1820-1887). Jenny Lind-Goldschmidt and Husband, Otto, Portrait CDV along with Signed Bagpipe Tune and Signed Letter, 3. 1860s.

1. CDV: London: H. Murray, ca. 1860. Albumen CDV on studio mount. Features the couple and inscribed "Mr. & Madame Goldschmidt." 4 x 2 1/2".

2. Bagpipe tune signed and dated March 1865. 9 1/4 x 11 3/4". (CDV is attached to page).

3. Letter is undated, but signed "Jenny Lind-Goldschmidt," so is sometime after 1952. Discusses a potential upcoming performance. 8 1/8 x 10 1/8". Matted to 13 x 17.

Jenny Lind was a celebrated Swedish operatic soprano known as the "Swedish Nightingale." After experiencing great success in European opera during the 1840s, she retired from the stage at the age of 29. She was later famously recruited by P.T. Barnum for a widely publicized American tour from 1850 to 1852, and she generously donated her substantial earnings to charity.

Letter with tears and losses. Overall group is very good.
