The item supplies a report from Washington of his diplomatic mission to warn the French to evacuate the Ohio Country: "By Major Washington, who is just arrived from our settlements on the Ohio, we learn, That a large Body of French are settled on the Branches of that River. That they have erected several Forts, on which they have mounted Cannon; and, That they are resolved to defend themselves there, unless repelled by a Superior Force." These tensions would result in the Battle of Jumonville Glen three months later, when Washington ambushed a French scouting party and executed the commanding officer, Joseph Coulon de Jumonville, starting the French and Indian war.
