[NEWSPAPERS]. [OUTLAWS]. ["BONNIE AND CLYDE"]. The Des Moines Register. May 24, 1934. 18 pp. (out of a stated "Twenty-Eight Pages" on the masthead). Approximately 23 1/2 x 16 1/2".
Toned, brittle, chipped, creases, worn. Fair. A HEADLINE ARTICLE, ONE OF THE EARLIEST ARTICLES ABOUT THE DEATH OF "BONNIE AND CLYDE," APPEARING THE DAY AFTER THEIR DEATHS. "Barrow Lured to Death by 'Pal' / Convict's Tip Set Ambush, Sheriff Says / Mob of 3,000 Storms Morgue to See Two Riddled Bodies". On p. 2, is a photo of Bonnie and Clyde. Perhaps the most famous of the twentieth-century American outlaws, Bonnie Parker (1910-1934) and Clyde Barrow (1909-1934), robbed banks, kidnapped and murdered across Depression-era America. This article details the tip from Barrow's former associate, Raymond Hamilton, which enabled Texas Ranger Frank Hamer to intercept Bonnie and Clyde, and end their lives. Of interest, there is a box in this article asking if Barrow was a "Crooner" as a saxophone and sheet music was found amongst his effects after his death.
