1962 NY Herald Tribune Press Photo of Undercover Officers Dressed as Women. 1962. Original blakc and white silver gelatin press photograph showing two apparent New York undercover officers or detectives dressed as elderly women, one seated in a heavy coat and head scarf, the other in a hooded shawl with what appears to be a holstered pistol visible at the waist. Verso bears New York Herald Tribune newsroom markings, date stamp “1962,” manuscript identification “William Hinckley et Victor Ortiz,” and “Photo by Ira Rosenberg” stamp. Rosenberg was a longtime Herald Tribune / World Journal Tribune press photographer whose work is represented in institutional collections, including the Library of Congress. A striking mid-century crime and press image, combining theatrical disguise, police undercover work, and New York newspaper history. 10 x 8".
