Railroad Fatality Crime Scene Snapshot Archive with Original Photo Service Booklet. Mid-20th Century. A group of black-and-white vernacular snapshot photographs documenting multiple railroad-related fatality scenes, likely produced by police, coroner, or press photographers circa 1940s–1960s. The images depict bodies positioned along tracks, beneath railcars, and at accident sites, including one interior automobile fatality, all rendered with stark flash photography typical of nighttime or low-light documentation. Several prints remain housed in their original “Album Prints” booklet issued by Wayne’s Photo Service (“The Finest in Photo Finishing”).
The grouping reflects the unembellished, evidentiary style associated with mid-century forensic and news photography, with a strong vernacular and documentary character consistent with material seen in institutional or archive dispersals.
The photographs measure up to approximately 4 x 5" and retain period scalloped edges.
