The spiritual successor of punk tabloid Slash magazine, No Mag covered the California punk scene into its adulthood. According to Kalberg, it aspired to be “the most evil, nihilistic magazine ever,” and its tone even more outlandish than Slash. A brash, often very-NSFW magazine that covered music, culture, and fashion in L.A. from the rise of the city's punk scene to the mid-'80s post-punk/proto-alternative/ early noise days.

No. 8 Johanna Went cover, photographed by Jules Bates. This issue is notable for a detailed history of punk rock in the L.A. area by Charles Dukowski, a member of Black Flag. Also included are interviews with Joanna Went Band, Mark Pauline, info sheet on the band Social Distortion. With graphic sexual imagery and language throughout.
