Rowlandson, along with fellow artist, James Gillray, ushered in the golden age of British caricature. Rowlandson produced sardonic illustrations that skewered powerful political figures (such as William Pitt and Napoleon I), the high and mighty, and the common poor. He achieved success working for various publishers (such as Rudolph Ackermann,) selling prints and watercolors to wealthy collectors, and producing erotic artwork for select private clients. 

Drawing toned, soiled, with a few visible internal tears, mat toned and rubbed, with a tear at right. Good.
