This state visit was the first time a reigning British monarch visited the United States. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen the bonds between England and the United States (as well as public opinion) before the impending Second World War. This photo shows a somewhat less formal and more friendly relationship between the Roosevelts and the monarchs.
