[TEXANA]. [EL PASO / SAN ELIZARIO SALT WAR]. El Paso Troubles in Texas. [Washington, D. C.: Government Printing Office, ca. 1878]. Very book. FIRST EDITION, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES ISSUE, 45TH CONGRESS 2D SESSION, DOC. #93, WITH THE RARE MAP. The "Salt War" was a complex range war that concerned the ownership of huge salt lakes at the base of the Guadalupe Mountains in West Texas. The political struggle began in 1866, eventually growing into an armed conflict between Mexicans and Tejanos against a Texas politician who was supported by the Texas Rangers. The upshot was that the right of private factions to own what was once community assets (the salt lakes in this case) was established through force. From the renowned personal collection of Dr. George D. Lacy. Measurements: 10 x 7 x 1".
