8" x 10", 4pp, Philadelphia, PA., April 15, 1775. This Revolutionary War newspaper was published just 3 days before the Battle of Lexington and Concord and contains a back page report of British General Gage receiving a Royal Proclamation declaring the inhabitants of Massachusetts Bay to be “…actual rebels…” with a list of names of the rebels to be executed as Gage “…can get hold of them...” Included on this “Black list” and marked for execution was John Adams, Samuel Adams, John Hancock, and others. Just 4 days later General Gage sent his troops to Lexington, MA to capture John Adams and John Hancock, thus setting off the “shot heard ‘round the world”, and marking the beginning of the American Revolution. This issue is filled with the invective by both sides in the week leading up to the American Revolution, including quotes such as “the horrors of a civil war” and “…the rights of taxation without the consent of the subjects…” (no taxation without representation).
