6" x 8", 56pp, London, England, March, 1704. This historic 322 year old early newsbook, contains the printing of a letter dated July 14, 1703 written by Owaneco, a Sachem Chief of the Mohegan Indians in Connecticut. In 1703, the Mohegan Sachem was Owaneco  (also known as Oneco), the eldest son of the legendary Chief Uncas. In that year, his official status as the rightful Chief was confirmed by the English Crown, even as he fought to protect tribal lands from encroaching Connecticut Colony settlers. This period in 1703 marked the beginning of a major historical turning point for the Mohegan people. Unusually long detailed early news coverage of the Mohegan Indians in Connecticut, as penned by a Mohegan Chief himself.
