[2, blank], [2, ads], 198, [4, blank] pp. Publisher's full brown cloth over beveled boards, front board stamped in gilt (frog is at lower left corner), spine stamped in gilt, original brown coated endleaves. FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING OF TWAIN'S FIRST BOOK, IN THE LESS COMMON BROWN CLOTH. With all first printing points - ad leaf facing title-page, unbroken type on pp. 21, 66, 198. Only 1,000 copies of this title were published, more than half of that number was published in green cloth (there were seven different colored cloth used). 

Condition

Rebacked, preserving most of the original spine, hinges repaired, text with occasional light marginal toning, foxing, thumbsoiling.
